About Us

The Legal Aid Community Development Service Group is a not-for-profit Legal Community Development Service established under the National Youth Service Corps Scheme, dedicated to providing quality legal representation to low-income Nigerian Citizens.
We are dedicated to one simple but powerful belief: that no Citizen should be denied access to justice because of poverty. 
The Legal Aid CDS is charged with the responsibility of providing
free legal assistance and advice to indigent citizens and those who cannot otherwise afford the services of private Legal Practitioners, and in cases referred to the CDS from the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, the Attorney General's Office or the Nigerian Police Force among others. 

The Legal Aid CDS has also resolved to educate ordinary Nigerians on matters and issues pertaining to human rights as guaranteed in chapter IV of the 1999 constitution and other laws; in particular what they are expected to do whenever these rights are threatened or violated by any government agency, corporation or individual in the society.

We give specific attention to providing relief to victims of arbitrary arrest, unlawful detention and
prosecution using the Law Courts as the springboard for social reform. We will continue to strive to bridge the existing gap between the rich and the poor in the administration of justice.

Our unique value is an ability to go beyond any one case to create more equitable outcomes for individuals and broader, more powerful systemic change for society as a whole.





OUR OBJECTIVES


*To participate actively in safe-guarding constitutional rights of suspect, detainees and accused persons.


*To seek a speedy resolution of simple matters.

*To build public confidence and participation in crime prevention and detection.


*To offer Pro Bono (free) legal services to indigent citizens.

*To hold Seminars, prison visitations, public enlightenment campaigns and publish a periodic magazine.





*To abide by the tenets of the NYSC in an Ethical, Fair, Just manner and in line with International Best Practices.
